“Often the motives are mixed. You find yourself wanting to point people to Jesus but also feeling a desire to be noticed and praised, to make yourself the center of attention.”

035 – Interview with Gloria Gaither

Married for fifty years to her soul-mate and writing partner Bill Gaither, Gloria’s life has been an adventure. Bill and Gloria have shared a mutual commitment to a “larger purpose” and to that which is lasting. As a result of this philosophy, their union has produced over 700 songs, hundreds of recordings, numerous awards, a dozen musicals, a collection of books; and best of all, three children and seven grandchildren. In affirmation of their vast contribution to the gospel music industry they have been recipients of many Grammies and Dove Awards, the ASCAP Songwriters of the Century Award and have been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Contemporary Church

It is totally arrogant to think that God has only spoken through things that have been written in the last 5 years.

If you think you’re contemporary…wait 5 minutes because you will not be.
There is nothing worse than ‘contemporary’ that isn’t!

One of the reasons we start to focus on young and old is because we got too slick and performance oriented in the church that we lost the entrance level music for kids.

You can do music simply and have it touch your heart.  Music doesn’t have to be big arrangements with big professional people.

It doesn’t matter how old the song is if it is truth!

How arrogant to think that we shouldn’t sing songs that have outlived us.

The Discipline of Journaling

The things you think are big deals turn out not to be;

God’s will for your life are usually the interruptions; things like the person you meet in the grocery store, the phone call you didn’t expect, the person you met in the fender bender…

If you live your life with an open hand, you’ll always have plenty to do.

Marriage Wisdom

Have times and places where you can get things out on the table and deal with it.  In ministry, this is especially difficult.

  • Be committed to the Lord
  • Be committed to each other
  • Be conversational friends
  • Keep your intimacy

You don’t want to be one of those couples who are 70 years old and sit in the restaurant and never say a word.

In most cases, your problems tend to result from things outside your marriage.

Christian couples can underestimate sexual unity and intimacy both in conversation and physical intimacy.
Don’t neglect it.
